Résumé/abstract :
My PhD research focuses on the issues of health and healthcare in the Norman Kingdom of Sicily. Using predominantly hagiographical sources it aims to understand the relationship between religion and medicine within this region; to explore the attitudes and experiences of medieval people towards health; to investigate the healthcare available to the sick in medieval Southern Italy; and to explore the medieval mentalities towards those cases that we would now term ‘mental’ illness.
