Résumé/abstract :
My research is a multidisciplinary study into the impact of the Viking settlement on the areas around and between the city and towns of Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham. This area, previously part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, is now called South Yorkshire and many studies focus on its industrial history. In using historical, linguistic and archaeological sources I aim to bring out a rounded history of the area in the Viking Age. The area sits between several areas of Viking settlement (York and the Five Boroughs) and in completing my research I hope to fill in the ‘Viking Gap’ in our knowledge.
