Description :
Institutionen för arkeologi och antik historia, Uppsala University
The department houses different research projects in the areas of archaeology, classical archaeology, global archaeology and egyptology.
Archaeology works with prehistoric and historic material focussing on theory and the history of the discipline of archaeology as well as cultural historical perspectives. Several projects deal with the interaction between material culture and oral and written sources.
Within classical archaeology, our wide studies span urban life in Pompeij, female musicians in Rome and the depiction of masculinity in Greek comedy.
We also have a wide international distribution when it comes to sites – studies are performed in e.g. Bolivia, the Libyan Desert, the Middle East, Europe and southern Africa as well as in different parts of Sweden and Scandinavia!
Some of our older and completed projects are also documented here. They vary from runestones in Sigtuna as mirrors of the relationship between the town and its surroundings via Intersectionality studies in Classical Archaeology to excavations in Khawaled, Egypt and the long-term Sida/SAREC-supported projects Urban Origins and Human Responses and Contributions to Environmental Change in Africa.
Projets de recherche/Research projects :
– Gamla Uppsala
– Västergarn – Små berättelser i monumentens skugga
– The Ostlänken archaeological investigations in GIS
