Description :
The Department is committed to excellence in research and our staff are all well-known for their research activities across a diverse range of periods, countries and themes. Chronologically we span over a thousand years of history from the Middle Ages to the present. The Department is especially famous for its historical research on Ireland. In addition, we have a particular concentration of strength in French history, as well as expertise in American, British, German, Hungarian, Italian, Scottish and South Asian history. The themes which we cover include warfare, politics, imperialism and colonialism, socio-economic developments, religion, gender, education and urban history.
