Ball Thomas, The normative philosophy of Saint Anselm of Canterbury

Ball Thomas, From the temporal to the eternal: the normative philosophy of Saint Anselm of Canterbury, (dir. G. Gasper, G. Scarr, University of Durham)

En cours depuis 2009/In preparation since 2009

By revisiting Anselm of Canterbury as a normative philosopher it is possible to draw together the disparate strands of thought that can be found in his philosophical writings, prayers, mediations, meditations, and letter collection into a cohesive whole. Having done so, a number of patterns begin to emerge that allow the reader to move beyond a simply theological Anselm and to gain glimpses of his views on political philosophy. More importantly the practical side of his ethical theory can be thrown into focus, allowing a more comprehensive view of Anselm, both as a philosopher and historical figure.
